Uruguay Day 13 – Bidding Farewell to Daniel

Daniel is leaving for a few days to visit his cousin, so we won’t see him again until we’re all back in Sacramento. So, we had a farewell lunch at La Corte. They do a Prix Fixe menu that includes an entree, drink, and dessert. It’s a very nice restaurant, but the inside was booked so we sat outside (which worked out well because it was a lovely afternoon).

It was in front of the restaurant (that may or may not have been a restaurant at the time) that, on August 25, 1897, Juan Idiarte Borda, Uruguay’s 17th President, was assassinated. It’s the only instance of a sitting Uruguayan President being killed in office.

The after-effects of 1897 seem to be in well in the rear view mirror, as the quality of the food was not affected. Everything was delicious.

I slept horribly last night, so it was a very leisurely day. Not a lot of walking.
