Cups and plates set out for afternoon tea

New Years in London 2024 – Day 2, Part 2 (Mad Hatter Tea at the Sanderson Hotel)

We pre-booked afternoon tea at the Sanderson Hotel. It was a Mad Hatter/Alice In Wonderland themed tea, and it was amazing. The tea was the best either of us had ever had (5 different types), the Champagne was fantastic, and the food was divine.

A word of warning, though: although they will leave behind the teapot after pouring each variety, DO NOT go for seconds (or thirds). I ended up drinking 9 cups of tea. Combined with the copious amount of food (not pictured: a second round of sandwiches, and three different varieties of scones). It was too much. Things were touch and go for a while. Luckily, it all stayed down. Trust me when I tell you, 5 cups of tea and a glass of champagne are more than enough.

Before we get to the tea pictures, here are a couple shots of the billiards room just off the Sanderson Hotel lobby. There was a massive stained glass window, a purple pool table, and a throne.

And now, the photos from afternoon tea.
