Vintage + Vinyl
We spent all afternoon in Shoreditch (mostly Brick Lane, part of the greater Shoreditch neighborhood), which is a very Bohemian neighborhood filled with street art, vintage shops, and vinyl. And when I say vintage shops, I don’t mean Goodwill style junk. These are serious. Stuff people would actually want to wear. And there are a TON of them. Our favorite for clothes was Atika, but we also liked Rokit and a few others I can’t remember. Brick Lane Vintage Market was also great. They had clothes, but I can’t comment on them because I spent the whole time digging through crates of vinyl. There was a lot of used vinyl! I picked up a Tubeway Army album as well as an Art of Noise album.
Next door was a cool bar (Cafe 1001) where we took a beer break. They had a collection of vinyl for playing in the bar. Just across the way was Rough Trade East. Decent collection of used vinyl plus a ton of new. I may have gone a bit overboard.
Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium
After filling our bellies at a Lebanese joint, we went to Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium (a fantastic cat cafe). They currently have 19 rescues, aging from 4 months to 4 years old. When a cat gets rehomed, they get their portrait done and hung on the wall.
My Neighbour Totoro
We ended the day watching the Royal Shakespeare Company rendition of My Neighbor Totoro, which is one of our favorite Studio Ghibli stories. It was beyond amazing! The Jim Henson Company did the creatures, and the entire cast was fantastic. If you ever get a chance to see it, do it. You won’t regret it. No photos allowed inside the theater, but we took some in the lobby, including a display of costumes from the movie Poor Things.
