London Day 4, Part 3: Shakespeare’s Globe + Tate Modern

After Leake Street Arches, we made our way along the curve of the Thames, our eventual destination being Shakespeare’s Globe. Along the way we stopped to check out the Tate Modern and got a good look at the Millennium Bridge.

Tate Modern + Millennium Bridge

We really enjoyed the Tate Modern museum. There were exhibits that required pre-booking, which we didn’t do, but there was plenty to see without a reservation, including a great Roy Lichtenstein exhibit. We grabbed a snack at the very nice Corner Café And Bar inside the Tate. They had a good beer selection. In-between the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe is the Millennium Bridge, which is an ultra-modern footbridge.

Shakespeare’s Globe

We had tickets to Hansel and Gretel at Shakespeare’s Globe. It’s a great open-air theatre and was a really fun way to see a play. Unfortunately, we only saw half the play before they evacuated the theatre. No idea why. We waited around outside for about 25 minutes then gave up. It was really good, though! The narrator was the actress (Annette Badland) who plays the pub owner (Mae) on Ted Lasso! We originally had dinner reservations at The Swan, the restaurant connected to The Globe, but cancelled the reservation after the evacuation.
