Croatia 2025 – Day 9 (Off to Dubrovnik + Wine Tasting and Ston)

Left Korčula this morning. We were picked up in the van, then drove the van onto a ferry to the mainland. We stopped at Ston for lunch. Above the town are the Walls of Ston, a series of defensive stone walls that protect the city. Construction began in 1358. It’s known as the Great Wall of Europe, and is said to be the second longest preserved fortification after the Great Wall of China.

Leaving Korčula

Ston

During lunch a family of cats (4 babies, 1 dad, 1 mom) came to our table. Teresa fed them chicken (and was chided by our server!)

Wine Tasting

We also stopped to do some wine tasting (because we had to use the restroom, and it was the first thing we found). It was called Wine Shop Skaramuča, so we all sang Bohemian Rhapsody.

Arrival in Dubrovnik

Once in Dubrovnik, we rested for a bit and did laundry, then headed out to explore the Old Town and get some dinner and gelato. The walled Old Town is pretty amazing. We’re doing a Game of Thrones Tour in the morning.

Our apartment was great, but it was up a long flight of stairs. It was just outside Old Town, so was a great location otherwise. Pretty much anywhere in Dubrovnik is going to involve stairs.
