Below are a list of restaurants we’ve personally visited in New York City and can recommend. All reviews were as of the time we visited.
Diners/Luncheonettes
- Lexington Candy Shop – NYC’s oldest luncheonette. Classic American diner food, milkshakes, malts, egg creams, etc. More in this post.
Pizza
- Johns of Bleeker Street – An iconic NY pizza joint that doesn’t disappoint. We got in just before the rush and were seated immediately. Within 10 minutes there was a line out the door. Good timing! More in this post.
- Ben’s Pizzeria – Recommended by our friend Josh, who used to live in NYC. One block away from Washington Square Park. We were told to try the grandma slice, but they were out, so we got pepperoni. Nice crispy bottom crust with plenty of cheese. Solid slice! More in this post.
Restaurants/Bars
- Grand Central Oyster Bar and Restaurant – Located inside Grand Central Station. We didn’t eat here, so can’t comment on the food, but the cocktails were good. Worth a stop even if just for a quick drink, as it’s a step back in time. More in this post.
- Ilili NoMad – On the border of the NoMad and Flatiron districts. Upscale Labanese food. Very, very good! Recommended by Gus and Maddie. More in this post.
Coffee Shops
- Dark Matter Coffee ¡ADIOS AMIGOS! – Dark Matter Coffee has locations in Chicago and New York City. This is the ¡ADIOS AMIGOS! location, across the street from Howl! Happening, and just around the corner from what was CBGB. In keeping with the theme of the neighborhood, the walls are covered in concert and show posters. The coffee was delicious. Food Courts
- Mercado Little Spain – Spanish themed food court/mercado at Hudson Yards.
- Mr. Lopez Burgers & Bikinis – Burger and bikini (grilled cheese) stand inside Mercado Little Spain. Delicious burger!
