Below are a list of restaurants we’ve personally visited in Japan and can recommend. All reviews were as of the time we visited.
Tokyo
- Asahi Beer Hall – The Asahi Beer Hall is next to the Asahi Beer Tower, which is the 22 story headquarters for Asahi Breweries. The food (and beer) was fantastic. You can read more about it, and see pictures, in this post.
- Carvaan Tokyo – Carvaan Tokyo is a Mediterranean and Middle Eastern restaurant located on the 12th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square, directly connected to Shibuya Station. Photos can be found in this post.
- Sakura (at Tokyo DisneySea) – Sakura is in the American Waterfront area of Tokyo DisneySea, serving Japanese cuisine with a focus on fish dishes. It’s themed to resemble a waterfront fish market that was repurposed by Japanese immigrants into a restaurant. It was outstanding. More in this post.
- Shinjuku Golden Gai – Shinjuku Golden Gai is a district of Kabukicho within Shinjuku. The area consists of six narrow alleys, with even smaller passageways connecting the alleys, filled with tiny bars. Most bars can fit 4-5 people at most. Some, even fewer. If you’re looking for a unique experience, visit one of these tiny bars! Photos in this post.
- Suke6 Diner – This was close to our hotel, and we ate here almost every day. Very good breakfast! More in this post.
Gora
- Gora Brewery & Grill – Absolutely stunning microbrewery and grill in Gora. If you’re doing the Hakone Tozan Railway (the “hydrangea train”), make sure to allow time in Gora to grab a bite (and a beer!) at the brewery. The food and beer were both delicious. More in this post.
